Last week, Facebook announced that they will be adding six, emoji-based buttons, called “Reactions,” that will accompany the “Like” feature on posts. Users will now have the option to click “love,” “haha,” “yay,” “wow,” “sad” or “angry” on each Facebook update.
The social network has come to the realization that “liking” a post limits users in how they express themselves. Now, with Facebook Reactions, more meaningful, expressive communication is available on the go.
This can be extremely valuable for marketers because now that users can choose from an array of emotions on each post, marketers will get a better idea of how consumers feel about the brand. This data will give brands a more in-depth view of what type of content works and what doesn’t.
Giving more options to your audience means that they will take more time to select their reaction, which results in a more valuable engagement. Facebook’s latest updates have been aimed to improve marketing offerings for brands, but this one also gives users a louder, more relevant voice.
The new feature will start out as a test in Spain and Ireland. Facebook will then assess the feedback, make adjustments and move towards rolling it out worldwide.
